Real World Multimedia

Real World Multimedia is the coffee fuelled interface between Real World and the digital world. We design, develop and maintain interactive sytems and digital content for Peter Gabriel, Real World Records, WOMAD, Real World Studios, Real World Publishing, and WOMADShop. We also develop content for a small number of external clients including Bowers & Wilkins Music Club, Amnesty International, MIDEM, BMI and The Ludwig Centre in Aachen.

Real World Multimedia was created by Peter Gabriel around a reveloutionary interactive project called 'Xplora1'. This first project garnered huge acclaim and led to the development of 'EVE', another big leap in CD-ROM design. In 1995 Real World Multimedia started to produce enhanced tracks for the 'Real World Notes' series of biannual publications, enhanced interactive tracks for various releases from Peter Gabriel and Real World Records, and to develop the beginnings of the group's web presence.

DVD design and authoring were added to the workflow with many projects for Peter Gabriel including the 'More Than This' DVD single, 'Secret World Live', 'Growing Up Live', 'Still Growing Up' and probably our most ambitious title 'Peter Gabriel: Play The Videos'. DVD titles were also developed for Real World Records artists, such as The Afro Celt Sound System's POD, and for external clients. A notable project for its technical challenges was the Hector Zazou/Bernard Caillaud project 'Quadri + Chromies' which set the digital paintings of Bernard Caillaud to Hector Zazou produced musical collaborations with Peter Buck, Brian Eno, Bill Rieflin, Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian.

Real World Multimedia is very much a digital small holding or cottage industry - we often switch from gathering assets in the surrounding studios in the morning to weaving web pages in afternoon. Our current focus is very much developing a growing flock of websites, improving the user experience, the back-end systems and expanding the content. If LAMP development is your thing, but you also have a strong eye and ear for content, there may well be an opening for you on our jobs page.
